sacrifice
An act marked by its (real or supposed) sacredness aimed at honouring a deity, a cause, a belief by an offering that can take the form of objects or living beings, including human beings, in order to respect a rite, to show devotion, a recognition following the occurrence of an event or on the contrary its non-occurrence (birth, rain, disaster ...). More recently, the term has been extended to any kind of commitment going beyond the ordinary framework of its exercise and appearing exceptional both in its symbolism and its scope, and which a form of recognition or very often a lack of recognition only accentuates.
sacrifice
